WX8767 Lakeman, Percy

Percy Lakeman was born 1908 Bunbury, West Australia only son to Henry Rosewarne and Alice Lakeman. His father Henry died in 1919 leaving Alice Lakeman widowed with Percy and two daughters Mabel and Gladys. Alice Lakeman remarried and their were several more children born. She died in 1935.
From 1936 Percy worked as miner in WA's goldfields until he enlisted Oct 1940 AIF, later joining 2/4th MGB "D" Coy. Taken POW in Singapore by Japanese Forces on 15 Feb 1942.
POW Selarang Camp and Barracks, Changi.
Selected with 'D' Force S Battalion to work on Burma-Thai Railway, departing for Thailand from Singapore 1943.
Just a few months after arriving Thailand to work in the Hellfire Pass area, Percy Lakeman died of Malaria at Kanu I River Camp aged 44 years.
