Biography contributed by David Barlow

Corporal Conrad Larsen 123033 died on 24 December 1944 from the wounds he received following an engine explosion and his fighting to extinguish the subsequent fire on Marine Fuel Barge 05-17 on 18 December 1944 at RAAF Station Rathmines in NSW

He was nominated for a George Cross for his actions at staying at his post despite his serious burns injuries to keep the fire contained until assistance arrived.  The fuel barge was carrying 1200 Gallons of fuel and as it was tied up at the fuel point it was in close proximity to the base fuel tanks.

Member received a Mention in Dispatches (King's Commendation for Brave Conduct)
