HIS DUTY NOBLY DONE. ALWAYS REMEMBERED
Norman Charles Law was an Assistant Accountant when he enlisted in October 1941, not long after his engagement to Evelyn Maud Hutton (whom he later married in September 1942).
In November 1942 Norman’s commission as Pilot Officer was published in the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette, which took effect from 17 September 1942.
Norman embarked from Melbourne in November 1942 heading to Canada, thence to the United Kingdom in December 1942. Not long after completing his training for operational flights in Scotland, in May 1943 he was one of a number of Australians who participated in the raid on Dortmund. His next ‘sortie’ was a raid against Wupperthal. In early June 1943, 12 Australian and NZ airmen took part in the Dusseldorf-Munster raid and in July 1943 Pilot Officer Law was a participant in the major attack on Hamburg.
In March 1944 PO Law, as Air Bomber, was listed as missing following an air operation over Berlin and in September 1944 the Department of Air reported that PO Law was presumed to have died during this operation. His Memorial notices report that he had been flying in an RAF Pathfinder.
