Maurice's birth was registered as Morris (WA reg. 1485/1920). His parents Robert and Mary Ann married in London; they lived in Arrino WA (see https://www.carnamah.com.au/bio/robert-charles-lewis). Maurice's father died in 1929 aged only 39. Maurice was the sixth of eight children. Three of his four brothers also enlisted in WWII.
