Leading Aircraftman Clarence Roy Liebke 2604 of Number 2 Squadron RAAF was burned from head to foot when he was splashed while trying to extinguish flames from a drum of blazing petrol in a workshop at Laverton on October 16 1939

After bravely struggling against death for nearly 11 months, Clarence Liebke, RAAF welder, died in Caulfield Military Hospital from complications from severe burns.
