WARS CLAIMED FATHER, SON
In 1914 there were two people bearing the name of Andrew Wallace Lyon. By the end of World War I there was only one.
But he too was claimed—by World War II.
The first, the father, joined the A.I.F. and was killed in action in France. He left a widow and a son. Twenty years later his son, the second Andrew Wallace Lyon, enlisted in the R.AA.F. Towards the end of the war he and his crew were sent on a supply dropping mission over Yugoslavia. From that mission he never returned. His widow and family are still in W.A. The first Andrew Wallace Lyon has his name written on the State War Memorial. It is to put the name of the second Andrew Wallace Lyon, and many other names on the extension of the State War Memorial that the extension committee are asking for 20,000 pounds. Donations towards the cost of extending the memorial can be made to the R.S.L. at Anzac House or to the cashier at the Daily News.
