Walter Henry Mahony

Born Govan in Scotland on 29 Sep 1912 to parents Walter Henry and Mary Mahony.
Walter was working as a tractor driver on enlistment on 02 Jul 1942. He held the rank of Private in the 2/16 Battalion and was fighting in New Guinea where he was killed in action on the 30 Nov 1942. He served for only five months.
Walter is buried in Port Moresby at the Bomana War Cemetery grave refB5 F 7

Biography

Parents Walter Henry Mahony and Mary Mahony of 2 Swan St South Perth WA.

On enlistment Walter was working as a tractor driver. He enlisted on the 2nd July 1941 at Claremont Perth.

He was with the 2/16 Battalion and was killed then buried at Gona Beach Cemetery 30 Nov 1942 and reburied Gona War Cemetery 20 Feb 1948.

His grave number at Bomana is B5 F7 (7.5.1949)

His age at death was 31.
