Gordon transferred from 2/20th Battalion to 2/19th Battalion on 26th January 1942,just prior to the fall of Singapore on 15th February 1942. Gordon's name appears on the nominal and P.O.W rolls of both battalions.

Gordon died at the hands of the Japanese at Sandakan,Borneo, on 17th Jun 1945.Whether he died in camp at Sandakan and was buried in the jungle, or died on the forced march is not known.

No known grave. Remembered with Honour at the Labuan Memorial,Borneo.Panel Number 14. Gordon John Makim's name is located at panel 45 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial.
