TO LIVE IN THE HEARTS OF THOSE WE LEAVE BEHIND IS NOT TO DIE

News has been received by the relatives of Actg. Flt.-Lieut. Jack Marchant, D.F.C. (R.A.A.F.) of Warracknabeal, that leaves no doubt that he lost his life in air operations over Germany some time ago. Lieut. Marchant was previously reported missing after an operational flight over Duisberg on December 20. He participated in attacks on some of the  enemy's most heavily defended targets. In May last year, he was promoted to pilot officer and later to acting flight lieutenant. Lieut. Marchant was one of the small number of  crack Australian pilots called the Pathfinders, who were trained and equipped for the single purpose of paving the way for the main attack. Lieut. Marchant, aged 26 years, was the fourth son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. J. H. Marchant and stepson of Mrs. J. A. Marchant. He married in England last year, Miss Rita Alexander, and is survived by his wife, his step-mother, and four brothers.
