Biography contributed by Cherilyn McMeekin
Herbert's parents married in 1897 in Guildford. He was the eldest of seven children. Bert was actually born in 1899 and made himself a year younger to enlist. He also served in WWI, enlisting in 1917 aged 18.
Bert married Nora FOWLER (1905-1998) in 1927 in Perth (reg. 686). They lived in Stirling Street, Bunbury and had two children. His widow Nora (known as Molly) remarried in 1948 to Leslie Hall PEARSON.
Bert's youngest brother Robert (b. 1921) served in WWII in the RAN; declared missing presumed dead in Singapore in 1943.
Their mother Flora died in 1943 while Bert was still a POW, and their father Ernest died only five years later.
