Beaufighter aircraft A19-4 from Number 5 Operational Training Unit crashed into the ocean at Newcastle Bight off Port Stephens in NSW - killed were:
Sergeant Brian George Sparkman 438404 - body not recovered, commemorated on Panel 6 of the Sydney Memorial to the Missing
Warrant Officer Francis Edward Smallhorn 408882 and Sergeant William Lawrence Mather 443344 - buried in Newcastle (Sandgate) War Cemetery
