Alan Stewart Denzil James McGAVIN was born in Calcutta, India on 25th July, 1920

His parents were Alan Eugene Cecil McGAVIN & Hazel Harriet Mary BAIN who married in Deolali, India on 9th March, 1919

He attended Duntroon Military College and joined the CMF (SN 449030) before enlisting on 6th May, 1940

Alan was Killed in Action in Papua on 28th November, 1941

His headstone reads:

"He died for us

Our 'Chummy"

and his beloved England"

His brother Peter McGAVIN (SN VX24412) also served during WW2 in the 2nd/14th Infantry Battalion and was discharged on 15th September, 1945

His mother  Harriet Mary Hazel BAIN served as a Staff Nurse in the Australian Army Nursing Service before her marriage in 1919
