OBITUARY---Lance Corporal R. W. McGuire
The death occurred at the Narandera District Hospital on Tuesday morning last of a well known and respected resident of Narandera in the person of Lance Corporal Reginald William McGuire, at the early age of
20 years. Lance Corporal McGuire was a native of Narandera and had resided here all his life. Some time after the outbreak of the war he joined the Light Horse, and later went to Wagga for military duty in the A.M.F., and was stationed at Wagga until he took ill. After a period of treatment at the military hospital he was transferred to the Wagga Base Hospital, and about four months ago he was brought to Narandera District Hospital, where he died, as above stated.
While quite a youth Lance Corporal McGuire joined the Citizens1 Band, and remained a member until the time
of his death. He was also a member of Mrs. Hasforth's orchestra, and played at many social functions in this town. He was well liked by all who knew him, and his death will be regretted by his many friends through
out the district. Deceased is survived by his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. W. S. McGuire, Narandera; two brothers, Messrs. Harry,Narandera; and Walter,, Griffith; and
two sisters, Mesdames' L. Tindale and J. W. Miller, of Harandera. The funeral left St. Mel's Church on Wednesday-afternoon last, and besides being attended by a large number of friends, was also attended by
the Citizens' Band, which played the hymn 'Nearer, My God, to Thee' at the graveside, and Messrs Frank and
F. W. Homan sounded the 'Last Post.'
The Rev. Father O'Donovan officiated at the church and at the grave side.
The bearers were Privates T. Malcolm and J. Bender, representing the military forces; and Messrs. L. Tin
dale (brother-in-law) and C. Ashcroft.
The Union Jack at the Returned Soldiers' Club was flown at half mast as a token of respect to the memory of the deceased.
Messrs. Watkins Bros, had charge
of the funeral arrangements.
