The details provided are taken from the book "1000 Men at War" the history of the 2nd/16th Infantry Battalion, published 1959, refer to page 97. William was born 16th Aug 1913, prior to the war he was a labourer of Bayswater WA. He served with the 2nd/16th Inf Bn. Unfortunately, he was Killed In Action 6th July 1941. Rest In Peace. Lest We Forget.

Private William Robert McLeod (Service No:WX3072) enlisted in the Australian Army on 21 May 1940 and embarked for Palestine on 25 October 1940 attached to 2nd/16th Infantry Battalion. Private McLeod was KiA at Lebanon on 6 July 1941.

Born in Guildford WA in 1913, William was the third of five children (and the first born in WA) of John McLeod (b1879 in Sutherland, Scotland) and Jane Anderson (b1881 in Angus, Scotland. John (a Night Porter) and Jane (a Domestic Servant) married in 1908 in Edinburgh, Scotland and had settled in Guildford WA with their family by 1913. John worked as a Hotel Porter, Book Keeper and Collector.

William worked as a Miner in Kalgoorlie and in 1935 in Perth WA married Annie Charlotte Williams (b1912 in Perth, WA). William and Annie settled at Bassendean in Perth WA where William was working as a Labourer when he enlisted in the AIF in May 1940.
