From How We Served
The final resting place for; - V5462 Warrant Officer Class Two Kieran William McQueenie of Penicuik, Scotland and Korong Vale, Victoria who had served with The Royal Scots as part of the First British Expeditionary Force during the First World War, and was a veteran of the trenches of France and Flanders.
Following the end of hostilities Kieran immigrated to Australia, and by the start of the Second World War was working as a railway employee.
Kieran chose to re-enlist for War Service with his newly adopted country on the 14th of August 1940 and was accepted for full time duty within Australia. Initially serving with Training Battalion establishments within Victoria, Kieran was taken on strength with Garrison Brigade Headquarters in August 1941 before being transferred over to Camp Staff at Darley in December 1942.
By the end of 1943, Kieran was again transferred when he was taken on strength with Headquarters Volunteer Defense Corps, where he was engaged in Anti-Aircraft duties.
During the last year of the War, Kieran was again transferred when he was taken on strength with Headquarters Victoria Lines of Communication and was still serving with this Unit when the Second World War neared its final months.
With the War nearly over, Kieran was still on strength with the Australian Military Forces when he was evacuated to hospital due to illness on the 16th of July 1945.
Initially diagnosed as suffering from pneumonia, Kieran would receive ongoing medical treatment, and was a patient at the 115th Australian General Hospital (Heidelberg) when his premature death occurred on the 14th of April 1946, at the premature age of 48.
Following his death whilst still in service, Warrant Officer Class Two Kieran McQueenie, a Scottish veteran of the ‘Great War’, and who had served within the Australian Military Forces for the duration of the Second World War, was formally laid to rest within Springvale War Cemetery, Victoria.
