Edward, known as Collin, was the seventh of ten children born to William and Ellen. Four of his brothers also enlisted in WWII: John, Alfred, Hurtle, and Kenneth. His only other brother, Leslie Norman, died in 1923 of mumps, aged 9. His father William died in 1933 (see obituary: https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/147648069). His mother Ellen did not remarry and lived to age 79. Many family members are buried at Capel Cemetery.
