Flying Officer Thomas Roberts Millar 422612 RAAF (Observer / Bomb Aimer) was killed in the loss of Liberator KH158 of 31 Squadron SAAF (31SQN SAAF) near Genoa, Italy - six aircraft were lost during an operation carried out by twenty crews to drop supplies to partisans in Italy.
Also killed were: Major S S URY SAAF Pilot / Flying Officer George Edward HUDSPITH Co-Pilot / Lieutenant G A COLLARD SAAF Navigator / Lieutenant N W ARMSTRONG SAAF Air Gunner / 2nd Lieutenant P J JORDAN SAAF Air Gunner / Warrant Officer I L B BLOCH SAAF Air Gunner / Sergeant Richard Charles FITZGERALD Air Gunner
The aircraft was never found - the eight crewmen onboard were presumed killed and are commemorated on the Malta Memorial
