William Reginald Myles was born in 1910 in Liverpool, England, the son of William and Lucindae (Lucy) (nee O’Brien) Myles. He was educated at Dean State School, Victoria, receiving further education when he joined the Royal Australian Navy in 1926. Initially serving as a Boy Seaman, he became a Naval Gunner, later enlisting in the RAAF in 1930 to serve as a member of the Seaplane Squadron at Point Cook. He was granted a discharge in 1936 to take up a position as a Seaman on Patrol Boats in Darwin.
William married Margaret Sylvia (nee Nottle), of East Malvern, Victoria, in May 1940 and later enlisted with the RAAF on 11 October 1940. He initially was sent to Canada for training and arrived in England in July 1941. Sgt Myles was a wireless operator/air gunner with Bomber Command, Royal Air Force and died on 15 December 1941 when his aircraft flew into the ground near Upwood, Huntingdon, while descending during a night cross-country exercise. Sgt Myles was buried in the Bassingbourn cum Kneesworth Cemetery on 19 December 1941, Cambridgeshire, England
