Flight Lieutenant Arthur Douglas Nelson 405874 in Kittyhawk A29-665 of 80SQN RAAF was on an attack mission against Japanese watercraft and motor transport in the Kai Islands, Netherlands East Indies on the 13th of October 1944

His aircraft was hit by anti-aircraft fire and he made a forced landing near Little Kai (Kei) Island; he managed to paddle to shore, where he was captured by Japanese forces

He was executed on the 8th of November 1944 - two Japanese officers were sentenced to death for his murder in September 1948
