Townsville Daily Bulletin (Qld. : 1907 - 1909 ; 1912 - 1966), Saturday 19 September 1942, page 2
An inquest was held on Friday afternoon before the Coroner (Mr. R. H. Allen) into the manner and cause of death of Kevin Alexander Ness, gunner, who died as the result of injuries received on July 24, 1942, when a military van he was driving overturned on the Charters Towers Road near Woodstock. The examination of the witnesses was conducted by Sergeant W. Hartwig. Gunner W. C. Bennett stated he was in the truck with the deceased, and they were returning, after delivering rations to a broken down truck. Considerable damage was done to the van when it overturned. The witness escaped uninjured. The doctor's certificate, following the post mortem, stated that death was due to a ruptured liver and a crushed abdomen. Short evidence was given by Constable C. H. J. Williams, after which the inquiry was closed.
