Family Background

Walter was the fifth of six children of Ernest & Emily Norris, he grew up in the Dandenong region (VIC) most likely on the family’s market garden. Prior to enlisting in 1940, he was a single man living in Keysborough and worked as a labourer. He enlisted with two of his brothers, who both returned home.

He was captured as a prisoner of war in Burma and due to the horrendous conditions he lived in, developed pneumonia which eventually led to his death on 24 August 1943.

He was the great grandson of Henry Luxford.
