Biography

Claude Charles Purvis NYE was born on 1st November, 1916 Port Melbourne, Victoria

His parents were Claude NYE and Vera Ann PURVIS

He married Charlotte Mary GRAY in 1940 in Victoria

Claude served in the Middle East and Papua New Guinea

He was Killed in Action while leading a counter attack at Brigade Hill near Efogi on 8th September, 1942 - he was first buried in Ragi Nauro & reburied in Port Moresby (Bomana) War Cemetery

He was a Captain in the 2/14th Australian Infantry Battalion & also commemorated on the Australian War Memorial & the Roll of Honour in Melbourne.

His brother Alfred John Purvis NYE also served in WW2

DEATHS - On Active Service

NYE.- VX14096 Captain C.C.P. (A.I.F. returned) killed in action in New Guinea, dearly beloved husband of Charlotte aged 26 years.

Sweet memories , forever in my heart.

Greater love hath no man that he lay down his life for his country and our freedom.
