Flying Officer Leslie John Keith Olney 256518 of Number 12 Service and Design Unit (12 Works Survey & Design Unit - 61 Works Wing) was travelling on De Havilland Dragon A34-51 as a passenger. The aircraft struck trees on the south-west of Goulburn Island, NT and FLGOFF Olney was killed.
The pilot was Flying Officer John Slade 401837 of Number 6 Communications Flight (severely injured). Another passenger was Flying Officer Frederick Harold Porter 264738 of 44RDF Wing (uninjured)
