Private Ernest Anthony Pedder (Service Nos:V190192/VX108572) initially enlisted in the ACMF on 3 October 1941 and was atatched to 22 Infantry Battalion when he enlisted 'in the field' in the AIF on 9 August 1942. Private Pedder embarked with 2/5 Independent Coy on 8 December 1942 from Townsville for Port Moresby on board SS Tarooma, and was KiA on 5 February 1943. Older brother Bob also served in WWII.
Ernie was born in Perth, WA in 1922, youngest of two children of Ernest Anton Pedder (b1874 in Hahndorf, South Australia) and his second wife Louisa Agnes Philpot (b1891 in Portland, Victoria). Ernest was a Traveller in 1916 when he enlisted in the AIF (Private; Service No:7154) and was in Melbourne in 1917 when he was Discharged (Medically Unfit). Ernest and Louisa (a Dressmaker in Melbourne) married in 1918 in Adelaide, South Australia and moved to Perth WA where they raised their family and Ernest was a Salesman (Ibis Shoe Company of South Australia) and a member of the Commercial Travellers' Association of WA. Following Ernest's death in 1924, Louisa returned with her two sons to Victoria, where she remarried in 1926.
Ernie was working in Woodleigh Vale, Gippsland, Victoria as a Farm Labourer in 1941 when he enlisted in the Army.
