ERNEST RANDAL HOLMES, son of Mr. William Hy. and Mrs. F. L. Holmes, was born at Maryborough, Victoria, on 3rd April, 1891, and was educated at the Ballarat College, and joined the Bank’s service on 6th June, 1908, at Melbourne.

Enlisting in Melbourne a few days after the outbreak of war, he embarked with the Field Artillery and served in Egypt, Gallipoli and France, where he was eventually killed on 30th October, 1916, by a shell burst.

During his period of service he had been promoted to the ranks of sergeant and lieutenant.
