Letter home

Letter to the Proserpine RSL from Lieutenant Lennard Rigby
“A few members of my platoon have forwarded onto your branch, a type 96 “Nambu” light machine gun & a knee mortar captured after the final assault on Timba Ridge. We would like you to accept same as a commemoration on behalf of one of our Proserpine boys who paid the supreme sacrifice.
Hoping you are able to accept this gun on behalf of your organisation. We have quite a few lads from the home town with us & each & everyone acquitted himself splendidly & Proserpine can well be proud of her sons campaigning in the Solomons. For my part I am more than proud to be associated with them & am proud to be able to call them more than just privates, but friends. Our sister Battalion who is carrying on the fight at present, also has quite a few Proserpine boys with them, & I am sure they will also acquit themselves splendidly
For your information, here are the names of the lads at present with us:, A/Sgt. GJ Muller CPL HT Bowen, L/Cpl HT Byers (wounded, but just about fit again. Looking very well the other day when I called to see him), L/Cpl FR Quod (also wounded, but looking very well), Pte FA Forse, E, Thorogood. L/Cpl AF Peterson, Pte RT Fahey. Pte J. Carpenter”
