William Thomas LAWRANCE was born in Blackwood, Victoria to James LAWRANCE 1850 – 1913 and Mary Welsh Walsh LAWRANCE 1850 - 1879.
Military
William joined the AIF on 3rd September 1916 in Kalgoorlie Western Australia. He was assigned to 18/28th Battalion and embarked at Fremantle WA on HMAT Persic A34 on 29.12.1916. He was 43 Years old.
He fought in France and Belgium with 28th Battalion.
He was wounded in August of 1918, suffering a Gunshot wound to the left thigh that he received near Warneton, Belgium. He was admitted to Kitchener Military Hospital, Brighton, England on 15.08.1918. He also had the disability of Rheumatism, suffering this from Dec 1917.
He returned on HMAT “Bakara” from Devonport on 22.12.1918 and arrived back in Australia on 05.02.1919 where, because of his age and disability he was declared unfit for General Service but fit for Home Service on 17.12.1919. He was eventually discharged on 11.04.1919.
