He was a Sapper with the 2 Australian Railway Construction Company. He enlisted in Caulfield, Victoria 24 April 1940, was discharged 10 October 1941 and died post-discharge in 1947. He was however eventually accepted for commemoration as war dead on 24th September 2011. He left a widow, Ida Purcell.
