Kenelm MacKenzie RAMSAY was born in Quirindi, New South Wales on 27th August, 1914
His parents were Kenelm Kierston RAMSAY & Jessie Gwendoline MacKENZIE who married in Nowra on 28th June, 1910
Kenelm (Mack) was an International Rugby player & well reknowned
He enlisted in Paddington, Sydney on 7th June 1940 as a Private with the 1st Indenendent Company (Army) and was promoted to Corporal on 1st July, 1941
He was taken prisoner of war by the Japanese on 22nd January, 1942 by Japanes forces in Rabaul & they were being transferrred to Hainan off southern China on board the ship Montevideo Maru which was carrying over 1000 prisoners of war & was sunk by a US submarine (USS Sturgeon) on 1st July, 1942 offf Luzon - they were unaware that the ship was carrying allied prisoners. All the prisoners on board lost their lives
His name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial and the Rabaul Memorial
