Avro Lancaster heavy bomber R5698

On 1 Sept 1943 at 0300hrs, Lancaster JB132 collided in mid-air with Lancaster R5698 (UG-P) from 1654 Conversion Unit, RAF Wigsley over High Cross in Bleasby on a night training flight killing both crews. A memorial has since been dedicated to the crew in Bleasby.
JB132 was returning from a bombing raid in Berlin and was close to landing at RAF Syerston.
Some of the crews who died in the crash are buried at Newark Cemetery.
