Son of Philip REES and Jessie Olive REES nee McCANCE, of Canberra, Australian Capital Territory.
HE GAVE HIS ALL
His father was President of the Commonwealth Superannuation Board and his mother died in 1929 of heart seizure when he was 7 years of age.
Survived by his father, step-mother Lilly, sister Olive Stirling and brother William.
DIED IN PRISON CAMP
IN THAILAND
Signaller Philip Rees Mr P Rees, of Tennyson Crescent, Forrest who is President the Commonwealth Superannuation Board, has received word of death on January 11, 1944, in a prisoner of war camp in Thailand of his son, Signaller Philip D. Rees. Signaller Rees adds another to the group of fine young Canberra lads who have lost their lives in the war. He was educated at the Canberra High School and was on the staff of the Commonwealth Bank at time of enlistment. He was attached to the Australian Divisional Signals and only reached Singapore seven days before the surrender in February 1942.
