Richard was born 30th October, 1909 at Beulah, Victoria, Australia.  He lived there till about 1925-1931 when his parents moved to Richmond, Victoria, Australia.  His father Nicholas was a hairdresser and his mother Elminah home duties bringing up Richard and his 8 siblings (2 of whom died in infancy) his last residence was Waterdale Road, Ivanhoe and his occupation was butcher.   He enlisted at Royal Park on 15th September 1941. He was taken Prisioner 2nd November 1943 Malaya.  His death 18 November 1844 was listed as illness.  Service records show his death as Aorta & coronaries Coronary Occlusion due to Thrombosis.  He is buried at Kranji War Cemetery Singapore ref:  3.D.6.
