Flight Sergeant Thomas Richard Rogers - RAAF

Born in Drummoyne NSW in 1915,son of William and Kathleen Rogers.

He was educated at Barker College 1928-1929. He enlisted with the RAAF (425372) on 1 February 1942 aged 26 - 458 Squadron RAAF and served in the Middle East. He was killed 23 January 1944 aged 28. Engine failure, sortie mission over Mediterranean Sea. Malta Memorial Valletta Southern Harbour Malta (Panel 16, Column 2). Australian War Memorial (Panel 106).

A grazier from Burwood Station, Bungunya Qld, Thomas Rogers enlisted  with the RAAF and was based in Egypt with the 458 Squadron. His squadron flew twin engine Wellington bombers which attacked enemy ships and submarines in the Mediterranean Sea. Flight Sergeant Rogers was the navigator on board a sortie flight to Malta with five crew when the port engine caught fire and the aircraft was ditched at sea on 23 January 1944. There were only two survivors. He was 28 years of age when he died. His body was never recovered.
