Desmond Joseph Ryan was 25 years old and working as a Timekeeper Clerk in the gold mines of Kalgoorlie, WA when he enlisted in the RAAF on 24 October 1941. Training as Air Crew and re-mustering to Air Gunner he served both in Australia and overseas before posting to 7 OTU at Tocumwal on 4 December 1944.
On the evening of 12 May 1914 while on leave and travelling in a civilian truck near Finley he fell from the vehicle. A number of service personnel were travelling with him and immediately called for medical assistance however Warrant Officer Ryan died before help could arrive.
