Herbert Edward Lascelles RYRIE was born on 20th August, 1901 in Dubbo, New South Wales - his war record states 1905 which is incorrect 

His parents were Francis Lascelles RYRIE and Constance Margaret Amelia BAKER

He enlisted to serve in WW2 on 3rd November, 1939 in Narromine, NSW - he was a Private with the 2nd/1st Machine Gun Battalion which embarked for overseas on 10th January, 1940 on the ship Orford

Herbert was Killed in Action on 21st May, 1941 in Crete, and is buried in the Suda Bay War Cemetery 

Inscription on his headstone reads:

"IN GOD HAVE I PUT MY TRUST - I WILL NOT BE AFRAID"

His name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial, The Roll of Honour in Narromine and a memorial headstone in Narromine General Cemetery, NSW
