Liberator Pilot
Mrs. Avenel D. Shave, of George street. Norwood, has been informed that her late husband, Fit-Lt. Osbourn Sydney Shave, has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for gallant service.
Flt-Lt. Shave, as pilot, took part in many operational sorties, the majority of which necessitated fiying low over mountainous country, often in very adverse weather, said the citation. In June, 1944 he completed seven operatlonal sorles in 11 days. At all times Flt-Lt. Shave displayed outstanding skill, determination, and devotion to duty. Flt-Lt. Shave. as captain of a Liberator, lost his life on November 1, 1944, while carrying out special operations against tbe enemy in Burma.
After completing his training in Canada, he served in England, West Africa, the Middle East, India and Burma.

Mrs. O. S. Shave (formerly Miss Avenel Vyse), of Norwood, has been notified that her husband, Flt-Lt. Osbourn Sydney Shave, RAAF, captain and pilot of a Liberator bomber, lost his life on November 1, while carrying out special operations against the enemy in Burma. After his initial training in Australia he left for Canada in September, 1941, where he completed his training. From there he went to England, where he took a special course in reconnaissance, and was a pilot of a plane on Coastal Command.
Flt-Lt. O. S. Shave Afterwards he served in West Africa, the Middle East, India and Burma. Flt-Lt. Shave was 28, and was the elder son of Mr. and Mrs. O. R. Shave, St. Kilda road, Melbourne. He was educated at Geelong College, where he was a prefect. He won three scholarships and a free place for five years at the Melbourne University. He was employed by the Shell Company of Australia on its interstate audit staff, and his wife before their marriage was a member of the Adelaide staff.
