Kelvin Hewer SHOESMITH was born on 29th December 1920 in Wingham, NSW
His parents were William Stanley Boyde SHOESMITH and Ella Maude GREAVES who married in 1899 in Raymond Terrace.
He had previous service in the Reserves in 1939 and then enlisted in Sydney on 3rd February 1941 with the Royal Australian Air Force
Kelvin died in a Flying Battle during Air operations in the North Sea 26th - 27th July, 1942 - His body was found in the bay on 21st August and he was subsequently buried in Esbjerg (Fourfelt) Cemetery, Esbjerg, Denmark, Grave Ref. A11 10 18
His posting at death was with the 115 Squadron (RAF) - Rank Sergeant.

As Result of Air Operations Overseas. Sergeant Kelvin Hewer Shoesmith of Wingham.
Mr. & Mrs. W Shoesmith of Dingo St Wingham were advised by the Air Board on Friday last their son Sergeant Kelvin Hewer Shoesmith was reported to be missing as the result of air operations on our about the 26th/27th July, 1942
Kelvin and a member of the RAAF had been in England for some time. Friends of the Shoesmith family will sympathise with them in their time of suspense and will hope that more reassuring news will come to hand and that Kelvin will turn up safe and sound.
