HE MADE THE SUPREME SACRIFICE. LOVED BY ALL
Henry Shying, known as Harry, was the elder son of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Shying of 33 Cooper Street, Strathfield. He attended one of Sydney’s technical colleges where he studied motor body building, obtaining his final results in 1932. In 1941 he married Brenda (nee Herz) and in October 1941 he enlisted in the RAAF. He left Australia in January 1943 for the United Kingdom, and was then sent to Egypt in April 1944 where he saw service in the Middle East. He lost his life on 14 December 1944 in a flying battle near Cesi, Italy. He was 31 years old. His brother also served with the RAAF and was lost off the Queensland coast in June 1942.
