Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

Son of Joseph and Elizabth SLAVEN nee DEVINE of Gooloogong, NSW

He was among a group landed on the Island of New Ireland, in the hope of gaining intelligence on the movement of the Japanese Troops.  However, they were taken Prisoners of War.  Some months later they were herded onto the 'Montevideo Maru' on charter to the Japanese, and were being taken to Japan for slave labour.  The ship was torpedoed by an American Sub on July 1st 1942.
