Sergeant Stephen James Smitheram 411055 of Number 3 Bombing & Gunnery School based at West Sale in Victoria was killed when Hawker Demon A1-44 crashed at the Dutson training range, Victoria
Leading Aircraftman Ernest George Thompson 410106 BEM was injured in the crash - he was awarded with the British Empire Medal (Military) for his brave conduct in the aircraft crash (discharged from the RAAF in February 1946)
