Trentham Sportsman

KYNETON, Monday.—Trentham's first fatal casualty in the war is reported with the death on active service on January 4 of Lance-Sergeant J. Solomon, 26 years. Lance-Sergeant Solomon was a native of Blue Mount, and received his schooling at Blue Mount, Trentham, and the Daylesford technical school. After leaving school he entered Trewhella's foundry, and three years ago he went into business with his uncle at Darnum, Gippsland. He joined the Militia in Warragul, and went overseas in April last, receiving many farewell presentations from friends at Trentham. He was a keen sportsman, and played football with the Loddon Valley, Trentham and Yarragon teams; whilst he was also a prominent member of the Blue Mount tennis team. He is survived by his mother, sister and brother.
