Son of John Walter and Annie Gertrude Swain of Caulfield, Victoria

Flight Lieutenant Swain 400607 received the Distinguished Flying Cross while serving with Number 200 Squadron (RAF) in the UK

He was on duty with Number 23 Squadron at RAAF Station Darwin when he was severely injured in an accident involving Jeep 212693 on the night of the 6th of October and he died the next day. 

Also injured in the accident was Flying Officer Maxwell James Tough 417015 - discharged in 1946 (details of incident obtained from casualty file for FLGOFF Tough)
