Cecil Samuel Hedley TALLENTIRE was born on 17th October, 1902 in Campbelltown, NSW

His parents were William George TALLENTIRE and Hannah Elizabeth Ethel CLARK

He married Ida Laura CROSS on 2nd May, 1924 in the Church of England, Stanmore - 2 daughters

Cecil enlisted on 2nd June, 1941 with the Royal Australian Engineers - his last posting was the 3rd Railway Construction Company (RAE)

He returned from overseas and was admitted to hospital in Victoria and then moved to Sydney for further treatment

He died at the 113 Australian General Hospital (later known as Repatriation General Hospital and then simply Concord Hospital) , Concord West on 16th October, 1942 of Sarcoma and is buried in the Rookwood War Cemetery - the inscription on his headstone reads

NX18729 Sapper, Royal Australian Engineers, 16th October, 1942 aged 39

"He gave his life for his Country - his duty done" Ever Remembered.

Cecil was awarded the Defence Medal, War Medal and the Australian Service Medal

OBITUARY

Sapper Cecil Tallentire

The death took place on October 16 at 113 AG Hospital of Sapper Cecil Samuel Tallentire of Harris St, Fairfield

He leaves a sorrowing wife and two daughters for whom there is much sympathy.

Sapper Tallentire was a native of Campbelltown.  His parents Mrs. & the late Mr. William Tallentire came to Fairfield about 15 years ago and the son & his family came here about 4 years ago.  At Campbelltown he excelled as an all round athlete , particularly in foot running, cycling and Rugby League football.  Before enlisting he was employed by the Australian Gas Light Company

Sapper Tallentire saw service in the Middle East where he took ill. Arriving home from the Middle East early in Augusut he entered hospital.  The trouble was caused b ya germ in the hip which defied medical treatment. The interment took place on Saturday afternoon in the General Military Cemetery, Rookwood
