A PRECIOUS LIFE. HIS DUTY DONE
Bruce Cathcart Thompson was born on 3 March 1917 to Leslie Samuel and Ethel May Thompson, of Parkdale, Victoria, Australia. He attended Mordialloc State School from 1 January 1929 to 31 December 1930 then the Mordialloc High School from 1 January 1931 to 31 December 1932, obtaining his Intermediate certificate in December 1932.
In 1939 studied Accountancy at the Commonwealth Institute of Accountants.
Occupation was Clerk at the Melbourne Harbour Trust Commission.
Bruce enlisted on 18 August 1940 in Victoria, and left Sydney on 28 December 1940 for Canada. He spent five months in Canada serving with the RCAF until 4 May 1941, and was then sent to the UK where he served with the RAF from 5 May 1941 until he was killed in a flying accident at Ashwell Baldock, Hertfordshire, England, on 22 July 1941.
