Man Fatally Injured By
Diesel Locomotive
58-YEAR-OLD man died soon after being knocked down by a locomotive at Derwent Park station yesterday morning. He was Guy Weston Luttrell, storekeeper, of 255 Main Rd., Moonah. Moonah police said Luttrell, who lived at 2 Douglas St., was crossing a pedestrian crossing over the railway line at 11.13 a.m. Police were told Luttrell had for some  reason stepped back. A diesel electric locomotive from Hobart, about to pull into the station, struck Luttrell and dragged him about nine yards along the line. Station officials raced to Luttrells assistance and called an ambulance but he died before it arrived.
An inquest was later opened before the Coroner (Mr. Brettingham-Moore). A witness told the Coroner that Luttrell had good eyesight but was slightly deaf, and did not wear a  hearing aid. The inquest was adjourned.
