Four Airmen Killed
When
Trucks Crash
SIX OTHERS INJURED
PERTH, Friday.
Four members of the RAAF were killed and six members of the RAAF were injured late yesterday when two RAAF trucks crashed together, three miles south of Pearce aerodrome. All were on their way to rehabilitation lectures at a technical college.
Those killed were:—
Cpl Fitter Peter James Wall, Midland Junction.
Cpl Charles Whitely Chester, of North Perth.
LAC Ross Alan Powell, of Bridgetown;
and Flt/Sgt. Raymond Thomas Tapping, of Guildford.
With a load of 13 men and a member of the WAAAF, a 30-cwt tender left Pearcc for Perth, and 10 minutes later the accident happened on a stretch of road which gives visibility in either direction for  several hundred yards. The collision was not quite head-on. The wagon crashed into the off-side of the tender, ripping away the body as they ground together. The tender's side was sheared off. It is  thought those killed were sitting where they would receive the full force of the impact.
