Son of Arthur Albert and Irene Violet Walton; husband of Ellen Rose Walton, of Marrickville, New South Wales, Australia.
Following a very anxious time during the past months, Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Walton, of Victoria Avenue, this week received the following sad news from the Air Board: "I deeply regret that no further news of your son, Pilot Officer Colin Allan Walton, has been obtained since this Department's last communication to you. In the circumstances, it is considered that all hope of finding him alive must be abandoned. "As your son at the time he became missing was serving on attachment to the Royal Air Force, the Air Ministry, London, has had the respcnsibility of considering whether a presumption of death should be made.
"I deeply regret to inform you that the Air Ministry, London, has decided to presume that your son lost his life on 23rd May, 1945, and that this Department concurs in this course of action.
"The Air Ministry, upon which devolves the responsibility for the search for members of all Dominion Air Forces missing in the Far East, has established a research organisation whose activities will be continued for some considerable time, and every effort will be made to obtain information which may give you the comfort of more definite knowledge of the manner in which your son lost his life."
Pilot Officer Walton was born at Narandera 30 years ago last March, and lived here all his life, up to the time of his enlistment. He was educated at the Intermediate High School, and was a very athletic young man, being a good footballer. He was very popular with all who knew him. He received his Air Force training at Cootamundra. Port Melbourne, Mildura, Tasmania and Canada before going to England. Prior to leaving Australia he married Miss Irene Whyte, of Cootamundra, who, with an infant daughter, Jill, is residing at Cootamundra.
His brothers and sisters are Frank (Melbourne), Walter ("Dig", Goulburn), Ray ("Hopper," Narandera), Violet, Margaret (Melbourne), Lorna, Doreen, and Beryl (Narandera).
