Fred Wapling
Word came through to friends on Thursday night that Pte. Frederick Wapling, formerly of Dartmoor, had been killed, in action.
Eldest son of Mr & Mrs A. H. Wapling, of Melbourne, formerly of Dartmoor, Fred carried on a butcher's business the latter town for some years. He sold the business in order to enlist.
His parents kept the Dartmoor store for some years and two or three years ago went to Melbourne, Pte. Wapling was born at Warrnambool, but had lived at Dartmoor and was educated at the Dartmoor State School and the Ballarat Grammar School.
Deceased was well known in Mount Gambier, where he had many friends, He was an active member of the Dartmoor Football, Cricket, and Tennis Clubs, and prior to enlistment, treasurer of St. George's Church of England and a member of the central council of the Heywood parish, also a member of the Dartmoor P& A Society.
