Captain William Philip Watson NX112723 of Number 45 Australian Air Liaison Section was aboard RAAF 23 Squadron Vultee Vengeance aircraft A27-275 when it was lost in action at Hansa Bay, New Guinea - A27-275 was lost on the same mission as A27-276
The pilot was Flying Officer Noel George Burnell 409289 who was also killed
Both men are commemorated on the Lae Memorial in Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea
