Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

Son of Edward James West and Emily Charlotte West, of Wentworthville.

Pte. Norman Charles West who has been stationed with a garrison at a southern prisoner of war camp, met a tragic death when he apprently fell from the South-West Mail about two miles on the other side of Wallendbeen station during Friday night.   The tragedy was not discovered until a guard of a goods train, which left Wallendbeen just after 7 o'cock on Saturday morning saw the body alongside the line.   West had fallen on his face, and was apparently killed instantly.  The South-West Mail passed through Wallendbeen at 12.14 on Friday night.

Deceased who was a returned soldier of the Great War, was a widower, and he lived at Wenworthville.  His mother and sister arrived in Cootamundra yesterday morning.

The funeral left the Church of England at 9.30 a.m. yesterday, and the remains were interred in the war portion of the Cootamundra Cemetery.

Deceased was going home on leave until July 1.

Rev. A.W. Harris officiated at the graveside.
